1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information:

• Personal Information: Name, email address, phone number (optional), and physical address (optional) you provide when creating an account or project details.
• Location Information: ZIP code, which we ask for after signup and require in order to use the app. It is used to price materials near you. We do not collect precise GPS location.
• Photos: Photos of your spaces that you take or upload for AI design generation, and inspiration images you save.
• Project Information: Details about home renovation projects you create or manage within the app, including project descriptions, photos, budgets, and timelines.
• Purchase Information: Subscription status and purchase history when you buy a subscription through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Payment is processed by the store, not by us; we never see your payment card details.
• Usage Data: Information about how you use the app, including features accessed, time spent, and interactions with contractors.
• Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, IP address, and browser type. Crash and performance diagnostics are collected to keep the app stable.

Service Availability: BuildIt AI is currently available only to users in the United States. By using our service, you confirm that you are located in the United States.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and improve the BuildIt AI service
• Generate AI-powered design renderings from the photos you submit
• Provide localized materials pricing based on your ZIP code
• Manage your subscription and enforce plan limits
• Connect homeowners with contractors
• Process and manage projects
• Communicate with you about your account and projects
• Improve our AI-powered design features
• Ensure the security and integrity of our services

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

• Contractors: Project details necessary for them to provide bids and services
• Service Providers: Third-party services that help us operate our app, including:
  • AI processing providers (OpenAI, Google) — photos you submit for a design are sent to OpenAI, which generates and edits the images, and to Google, which analyses rooms, reference images, and materials, under their own terms for business API use
  • Cloud hosting providers (Supabase) — for data storage, authentication, and processing
  • Analytics providers (PostHog) — to understand app usage and improve services
  • Crash reporting providers (Sentry) — to diagnose crashes and stability issues
  • Subscription management providers (RevenueCat, Apple, Google) — to process and manage in-app subscriptions; payment is handled by whichever store you bought through
  • Communication services (for messaging and notifications)
• Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights

Data Storage: Your account, projects, and photos are stored in the United States. Some of the service providers listed above may process data outside the United States under their own terms.

4. Photos and AI Processing

Generating a design means sending your photo, and the instructions you give with it, to an AI provider. We use OpenAI to generate and edit images, and Google to analyse rooms, reference images, and materials. Those providers process the photo to produce a result and return it to us, under their own terms for business API use.

Generated designs are stored in your account alongside the photo they came from.

If you would rather a room, object, or person was not sent to an AI provider, do not include it in a photo you upload.

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

One detail worth stating plainly: while an image is stored with your account, it is served over a long, unguessable web address rather than being locked to your account. Someone who is given that address can open the image without signing in, and the address does not expire on its own. Only you can list or browse what is in your account, and an address stops working once the file behind it is deleted.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access and update your personal information
• Delete your account and associated data directly in the app (Settings → Delete Account), or request deletion by contacting us
• Opt out of marketing communications
• Request a copy of your data

7. Data Retention

We keep what you create for as long as your account exists. We do not delete your designs, projects, or materials lists on a schedule, and nothing is removed because a subscription ended. Specifically:

• Account and Project Data: Kept while your account exists, and removed when you delete your account
• Photos and Designs: Kept with the project they belong to, and deleted on a best-effort basis when you delete your account
• Usage and Analytics Data: Kept in aggregated or anonymised form, which is not tied to your account and is not removed by deleting it
• Legal Requirements: Some records may be retained longer where applicable law requires it (e.g., tax records, contractual obligations)

Deleting your account removes the account and the data attached to it, and we delete the photos and designs stored with it. You can do this yourself in the app under Settings, or by asking us at hi@builditai.app. One caveat: file cleanup is best effort, so a stored image can occasionally survive it, and a direct link to a file that survived would keep working (see section 5). Deleted files stop resolving.

8. Children's Privacy

BuildIt AI is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18.

9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our website (builditai.app) uses minimal tracking technologies:

• LocalStorage: Used to store your theme preference (light/dark mode)
• Analytics: Our website uses PostHog to understand how the site is used. It stores an identifier in your browser.
• Affiliate Tracking: Our website uses Impact to attribute referrals from partner links, which sets a cookie when you arrive from one.
• Feedback Widget: Our website loads UserJot so you can send feedback.

The mobile application may use additional technologies for functionality and analytics, which will be disclosed within the app.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. For material changes that significantly affect your rights, we will provide prominent notice through email (to the address associated with your account) or a notification within the app at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of BuildIt AI after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
